THE ESSENCE OF DEPED TV: ENGAGE, ELEVATE AND
EXTEND STUDENT LEARNING

ABSTRACT

Education plays an important role in the learning and development of a student. DepEd TV provides an avenue to accommodate the different learning styles of learners. The episodes were designed with more interactive components to capture and sustain learners' interest while attaining the targeted competencies. Technological learning tools help the student to see learning as sources of pleasant, engaging, and exciting formative experiences. Students who love technological materials are more likely to be more involved and interested independently and will likely retain that appreciation throughout their lives.

The study aimed to understand the lived experiences of the participants in the utilization of DepEd TV video lesson in Oral Communication in Context in Labas Senior High School, Academic Year 2021- 2022. Generally, this study was designed with the following objectives: to understand the lived experience of the participants in the utilization of DepEd TV video lessons and how they cope with the challenges they encountered in learning oral communication in new normal.

The researcher employed phenomenological research to describe and understand the lived experiences of the participants in the utilization of DepEd TV video lessons in oral communication. Phenomenological approach is a process of exploring, examining, analyzing, learning and constructing the meaning of human experiences through intensive dialogues with persons who are living the experience. Its basic purpose is to reduce individual experience to a description of universal essence.

The salient findings of the study are: as to the lived experiences of the participants in the utilization of DepEd TV video lessons in oral communication, there were four themes emerged such as Theme 1: focuses on New Normal Learning Challenges of students in online distance learning. Theme 2: The Role of Technology in learning. Theme 3: Key Advantages of DepEd TV Video Lesson that provides an avenue to accommodate the different learning styles of learners. Theme 4: Learning Experiences Beyond the Classroom in new normal based on their experiences in a flipped classroom. Then, as to how the participants cope with their challenges in learning oral communication amidst of pandemic, there were four essential themes emerged such as Theme 5: Amplifying Learning Activities describes the advantages of DepEd TV video lesson for student. Theme 6: Student’s Engagement highlighted the participants’ lived experience during synchronous and asynchronous classes. Theme 7: Overcoming the Challenges in online distance learning. Theme 8: described the student’s self-realization on how to cope up with the challenges in learning amidst of pandemic.

Furthermore, based on textural and structural descriptions the following conclusions were drawn; the lived experience of students in the utilization of DepEd TV video lessons in synchronous and asynchronous class was considered an advantage in our current situation. DepEd TV provides an avenue to accommodate the different learning styles of learners. The episodes were designed with more interactive components to capture and sustain learners’ interest while attaining the targeted competencies. Using videos in the classroom is a very good idea. Not only does this provide teachers with a wide range of extraordinary benefits but it's a fun experiment for learners as well and they will certainly appreciate the entire experience to begin with. It's all about having the right approach and attention to detail.
