PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT AS A FACTOR AFFECTING THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN MATHEMATICS

RANDY V. DELA VEGA

ABSTRACT:
Parents’ involvement plays a vital role in students’ academic performance. Parents, as one of the stakeholders of the school must be active in molding their child’s education. Thus, the level of their participation and involvement must be high. In all fairness, many parents, specifically in elementary level, are very participative. They are visible to assist their children in doing their homework, communicating with their child’s teacher, etc. In other words, they are involved in their child’s education. But as their children move into high school level, parents become passive. Some of them are not involve because they think that their children can stand on their own, can study by their own. On this note the researcher would like to prove that the participation exhibited by parents has a big impact on the student’s achievement. The researcher believed that students learn and develop when the home and school work closely together. More active participation and involvement of parents should be done since they are the first ones to influence their child’s development and have always been most important agents of association of their children.
