LET’S TALK ABOUT CANCER: WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT IS NOT

Is it true that we all have cancer cells in our bodies? No, we don’t all have cancer cells in our bodies. Simply, our bodies are regularly generating new cells, some of which have the potential to become cancerous. Before we examine the technicalities of cancer, let’s take a look at these relevant statistics that may give us valuable information in relation to cancer.

Cancer Statistics

Roth et al. (2018) conducted a study last 2017 about “The Global Burden of Disease” which is a major global study on the causes of death and disease published in the medical journal “The Lancet”. This study, as cited by Ritchie (2019) from the article online at Our World in Data.Org entitled “Causes of Death” revealed that 56 million people died in 2017.

What did they die from? Let’s look at the top 10 causes of death last 2017:
