ABSTRACT
This study investigates the perceptions of various stakeholders regarding work zone safety associated with selected road construction projects in Barangay Malanday, San Mateo, Rizal, Philippines. Road construction, such as road widening, road concreting, asphalt overlay, maintenance, etc., is essential for infrastructure development but often poses significant safety risks to the community. This research aims to identify the safety perceptions among stakeholders, including drivers, pedestrians, construction workers, and engineers.
The research instrument used in this study is a descriptive type, designed to gauge the opinions and perceptions of participants regarding work zone safety. The survey assessed stakeholders' awareness of safety measures and their experiences related to road construction zones. Additionally, the study identified a significant gap in the dissemination of safety information, highlighting the need for improved engagement between drivers, pedestrians, construction workers, and engineers.
In the respondent’s assessment on the degree of affirmation in work zone safety, the grand mean result is verbally interpreted as “Agree,” implying that many of the respondents highly affirmed the work zone safety perception. This is indicative of high levels of agreement among stakeholder on their evolving role in work zone safety. The respondent’s assessment, when grouped according to category (drivers, pedestrians, construction workers, and engineers), shows a higher significance when it comes to safety perception.
This research underscores the importance of fostering a collaborative environment where all stakeholders can contribute to enhancing work zone safety. Recommendations include the conducting of further study, periodic surveys, communication channels, public awareness campaigns. Ultimately, the study aims to contribute to safer road construction practices in the region, enhancing public safety and community well-being.
