ABSTRACT

This action research investigates strategies to enhance self-regulation and numeracy skills among learners at Gov. Feliciano Leviste Memorial National High School, with a focus on numerate learners who demonstrate advanced abilities or potential in mathematics. Although these learners show aptitude in mathematical tasks, they often face challenges in maintaining focus, applying critical thinking, and persevering in complex numeracy activities. The study examines the characteristics of numerate learners, including their numeracy skills, attitudes, and interests, and evaluates how teachers assess their abilities and skills.

Furthermore, the research explores the teaching strategies currently used in numerate learners’ classes and examines the relationship between learners’ attitudes, interests, and assessed abilities. Based on these findings, a learner-centered program is proposed to strengthen numeracy competencies, cultivate self-regulation, and develop critical problem-solving skills. By empowering learners to take ownership of their learning, the study aims to contribute to the holistic development of academically confident and globally competitive students.
