PROJECT RADICAND: A TOOL TO ENHANCE NUMERACY SKILLS OF LEARNERS AT GOV. FELICIANO LEVISTE MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGHSCHOOL

CHARINA M. MANZANO

Mathematics is considered one of the core subjects that develops logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and critical reasoning among learners. Despite its importance, many students continue to face challenges in acquiring and applying fundamental numeracy skills, which are essential for success not only in Mathematics but also in other learning areas.

Recognizing this, the action research aims to assess the academic performance of learners in Mathematics, particularly focusing on their level of numeracy. It was conducted among the learners of Gov. Feliciano Leviste Memorial National High School using the descriptive method of research. The first objective examines the level of numeracy of learners with respect to the four fundamental operations in integers, fractions, decimals, and problem solving. The second objective identifies the common challenges encountered by learners in improving their numeracy skills, which affect their overall success in Mathematics.

Finally, based on the results of the study, a proposed intervention project is designed to address the learners’ needs in numeracy. By targeting the identified gaps and strengthening basic mathematical operations, the project aims to enhance problem-solving strategies and build confidence among learners. Through this initiative, the study envisions the development of a more competent and resilient student body in Mathematics at Gov. Feliciano Leviste Memorial National High School.
