(Reading Enrichment & Activity Development)

Background and Rationale:
Veronica National High School is located at Brgy. Veronica Lopez, Quezon. The school has been in operation for twenty years. It has a population of 238 students School Year 2019-2020 and 13 personnel including Head Teacher and Administrative Staff. Based on the result of PHIL-IRI, for School Year 2019-2020, 15 out of 61 students experience reading difficulties. They read slowly and encountered difficulties in comprehending Tagalog text. The team strongly believes that the reading skills be enhanced and this can be achieved with the implementation of the Program READ.

Objectives:
For Module 1, 2 and 3 to enhance students’ reading speed
For Module 4 and 5 to enrich their reading comprehension of the students
Over All Objectives to improve reading comprehension skills of 10 students out of 15 students at the end of January 2020.

Indicative Project Schedule
1. Assess (August 2019)

A. 15 out of 61 students are enrolled in the Program READ. Selected 15 students are based on the result of Pre-test of present Phil-Iri.
B. Reading materials were compiled to be used as a tool in the duration of the reading program.
C. Scheduling which falls every 2:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon during ICL, two groups were divided to 15 selected students who serves their partner.

2. Analyze (September 2019)
A. Pre-test for 15 students
B. They will take certain reading modules arranged from easy to difficult. The Module 1, 2 were used to measure the reading speed of the students while Module 4 and 5 contain different levels of activities to measure their comprehension.
C. Middle evaluation will be on November 2019 and the final evaluation will be on January 2020.

Findings/Result
After implementation of the Program READ, it will become fun and enjoyable experience to the students. It will have developed their self-worth and confidence in different real life situation. Student’s module improves students’ understanding and comprehensions of concepts. They become more proficient and literate individual.

Based on the result of Phil-Iri Post Test we found out that:
1. Literacy of 87% Slow Reader, 13 out of 15 students improved.
2. They can easily understand the context of what they read.
3. Struggling readers in class become students with a sense of self-worth and academically successful.
