MY LAST HOPE

by: ROSEMARIE D. GORERO

I am a sunset, slowly losing light,

A witness to the passing years.

I have seen both triumphs and trials,

Yet I remained the nation’s voice.

The day you came into this world,

Your mother’s voice gently called your name.

Not with borrowed words, but with love,

She called you Wikasa.

In you, I found another sunrise.

A heart that carried hope within.

A child destined to speak with courage,

To keep my spirit alive.

Together we shared joy and sorrow,

Dreaming of a better tomorrow.

Through every challenge we endured,

Our nation learned to stand as one.

I thought my story had reached its end,

That time would silence my voice.

But you gave me strength once more,

And filled my words with justice.

You became the voice of the unheard,

A bridge that united every heart.

You proved that language is not just speech,

But a path toward peace and freedom.

Through the youth, I live again.

In every truth they choose to speak,

In every act of love for the nation,

My hope continues to grow.

For others, I am only a language.

But I am the soul of a people.

I am the mother of tomorrow,

The voice of the nation, the hope of the future.

I am Wika. I am Pag-asa. I am Wikasa.
