ABSTRACT

This study aimed to assess the macro language skills of the Grade 11 students in public secondary schools of Camalig North District, Albay Division as a basis for the development of programmed instruction for effective communication. The study employed a descriptive-correlational method of research and was conducted with a total of 163 students. It was found out that the level of macro language skills of the Grade 11 students along with the five skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing, listening is at the intermediate level. The statistics highly indicated that there is a significant relationship among the five macro language skills of Grade 11 students in Camalig North District, Albay Division. The performance of Grade 11 students in Reading and Writing and Oral Communication in Context are both very satisfactory. The research recommends that teacher must aim to improve learning at an outstanding level in both subjects as they cover all the macro language skills. The least mastered skills in Reading and Writing and Oral Communication in Context are focused on practical and performance-based competencies which indicates that students lack exposure and experience in the four macro language skills. A Macro Language Skill Builder: A programmed instruction for Effective Communication is developed as an output of this study for effective communication skills.
