INTEGRATION OF ICT SKILLS IN UPLIFTING LEARNER'S ENGAGEMENT

IN THE NEW NORMAL SET-UP

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to assess the integration of ICT in uplifting learners’ engagement in the new normal setup, the extent of utilization of ICT resources. In addition to these, the present study looked into the challenges encountered by the teachers that affect on the use of ICT in the teaching and learning process. The results of this study will be the basis to propose activities to enhance the integration of ICT skills in uplifting learner's engagement in the new normal set-up.

The focus of the study was twenty-eight (28) elementary teachers of Concepcion Elementary School. This study used the descriptive method of research from which the questions included in the survey questionnaire were crafted based on the readings from various concepts.  The main data gathering instrument was the researcher-made questionnaire from which the data gathered were tallied and treated with statistical tool such as weighted mean.

From the results obtained, Teachers’ Information and Communication Technology (ICT) competency in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude is evident uplifting learner's engagement in the new normal learning setup. Utilizing ICT resources were evident. Respondents agreed that the hardware and software license that support teaching and learning is the number one challenge that affect on the use of ICT in teaching.  

Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations are put forward:

There is need to improve the access of the learners and teachers to ICT in order to improve their level of use, hence more ICT equipment should be made available to the teachers. 

The proposed activities must be utilized to uplift the learner’s engagement in learning. Teacher should consider different meaningful activities to enhance the integration of ICT.
