INSTRUCTIONAL SUPERVISORY PRACTICES OF PRINCIPALS, TEACHERS’ PERFORMANCE AND PUPILS’ LEARNING OUTCOME: BASES FOR A PRINCIPALS’

ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to determine the extent of the principals’ instructional supervisory practices, teachers’ performance and pupils’ learning outcomes in the different districts of South Cotabato. The result served as basis to propose a principals’ development program.

Findings of the study revealed that the principals show average extent of implementation in their instructional supervisory practices.

Teachers show high extent of implementation in lesson planning, average extent of implementation in the delivery of the lesson and average extent of implementation in assessment and test construction.

Furthermore, the result of the pupils’ learning outcome for the final average of the Quarterly Achievement Test for three consecutive years show closely approximating mastery.

The principals’ instructional supervising practices is of average extent and the teachers’ performance is also of average extent.

There is a high positive relationship between teachers’ performance and pupils’ learning outcome.

Based on the findings, the following recommendations are suggested: Principals’ and teachers should be provided with more trainings and Technical Assistance; a school based action research be conducted to come up with an effective strategies of teaching and learning, series of trainings anchored to the new normal will be given to teachers, and strong support for the proposed principals’ development program is suggested for the Division of South Cotabato; a yearly formative evaluation for the continuity of implementation and improvement of development program.
