ABSTRACT

This study was intended to conduct an experimental investigation on the use of inquiry-based approach in teaching Araling Panlipunan which serve as a basis for Proposed Instructional Program in Pres. Corazon C. Aquino High School.

This study is experimental in nature. The participants in this study were the two sections handled by the researcher. The two groups belong to heterogenous section with 42 students each. The Control Group was exposed to the Traditional Classroom Reporting while the Experimental Group was treated with Inquiry-Based Approach. The two groups were taught the same topics in Araling Panlipunan 8 as reflected in the K to 12 Curriculum Guide. The lesson plans used by researcher for the Experimental Group utilized Tri-Question Approach under Inquiry Model while the lesson plans for the Control Group used the Daily Lesson Log as prescribed by the Department of Education. The researcher-made tests (Pre-Test and Post-Test) were the primary instruments used, which were validated and tested for reliability before their implementation.

After the specific problems have been answered supported by the statistical treatment, the following were the findings of the study.

The mean grade of the control group was 77.45 and a standard deviation of 1.92 while the experimental group had a mean grade of 76.88 and a standard deviation of 2.56. Both groups were described as Fairly Satisfactory prior to the experimentation process. It was found out that there is no significant difference in the First Grading Grades of the two groups.

The mean score of the control group was 16.55 and a standard deviation of 3.58 while the experimental group had a mean score of 16.52 and a standard deviation of 3.25. Both groups were in the level of Fairly Satisfactory when the pre-test was administered. The computed t-Value of 0.04021 is less than the tabular value of 1.9900 at .05 level of significance. It was found out that there is no significance in terms of their pre-test results.

The mean score of the control group was 21.67 and a standard deviation of 3.57 described as Satisfactory while the experimental group had a mean score of 33.21 and a standard deviation of 8.05, described as Very Satisfactory. It was found out that there was a significant difference in the post-test results of each groups. It also showed that the students in each group are enthusiastic to learn, collaborative and participative during the experimentation period.

Also, it was found out that there is a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test results of the control group. The pre-test and post-test results of the experimental group revealed significant difference.

It was found out that there is significant difference in their learning gains. It showed that Inquiry-Based Approach is more effective than Traditional Classroom Reporting.

An instructional program to increase the academic achievement of the students in Araling Panlipunan was proposed based on the findings of the study.

This positive result was further supported by studies that pointed out the salient aspects of Inquiry-Based Approach as a teaching strategy. Therefore, it was inferred that Inquiry-Based Approach increased the performance of the students and brought encouraging attitude to improve their academic performance in learning World History. This result became the basis for proposing an instructional program in the study’s locale.
