ABSTRACT

This study investigates “The Effect of Procrastination on the Homework Completion Rate of Grade 12 ABM Students at Balayan Senior High School.” Using a quantitative descriptive design, data were collected from 118 respondents through a structured questionnaire employing a 4-point Likert scale. The research aimed to identify the personal, academic, and environmental factors contributing to procrastination and its impact on homework completion. Findings indicate that personal factors, such as task difficulty, stress, and fatigue, significantly contribute to procrastination, leading to delays or failure in finishing homework. Academic factors, including unclear instructions and perceived irrelevance of tasks, also influence procrastination but to a lesser extent. Environmental challenges, such as limited access to electricity and internet, further affect students’ ability to complete homework on time.

The study reveals that procrastinating students often resort to last-minute efforts, negatively impacting the quality and timeliness of their academic work. However, students who employed effective strategies — such as proper time management, task prioritization, and minimizing distractions — showed improved homework completion rates. The results underline the complex, multifaceted nature of procrastination, emphasizing the interplay of individual, instructional, and contextual influences. Recommendations include implementing school-based interventions aimed at improving students’ self regulation, enhancing clarity in academic tasks, and providing supportive resources. The study contributes valuable insights for educators, parents, and policymakers striving to foster better academic habits and performance among senior high school students.
