WHEN VOICES BECOME A BREAKING DAWN

by: GRACIA O. ESGUERRA

Before the breaking dawn could borrow light,

A quiet voice awakened the bluish skies.

In humble words, hope first speaks so right,

Long before the sun rises in the eastern skies.

The nation’s strength has softly, but sturdily nurtured,

Not measured by its wealth nor its treasured gold.

It has lived where truthful merciful hearts have endured,

And stories of dauntlessness still are relived and told.

Language is more than spoken sounds or words;

It continually shelters memories in the passing of time.

Every honest word becomes a seed sprouts in the woods,

Wherein its very roots outlive the towering and solid pine.

Justice walks with patient feet and flies with gentle wings,

Never hurried by any recognition nor a public applause.

It listens with compassion where aching silence clings,

And heals the deepest of wounds and human flaws.

When strangers learn each other’s names and tales,

The distance and reluctance gradually fade away.

Respect becomes the strongest bridge that never fails,

Where brighter hopes decide to linger or forever stay.

Unity out of camaraderie is never a single voice,

Nor a selfish dream that is never wanted to share.

Every moment is a courage to stand as one and to rejoice,

While honoring each other’s flame with a prayer.

Let every child today inherit powerful, yet truthful words,

That teach compassion and goodness over pride.

For every heart that learns to care resembles diamonds,

Keeps unity and lasting peace, forever by its side.

May history remember these words from this humble piece:

Hope is profoundly spoken and prayed for before it grows.

A nation has found its remarkable strength and peace,

When every soul fights and truth is uplifted by voice.
