THE PHYSICAL FACILITIES OF PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL OF CLUSTER 1

IN THE DIVISION OF LAS PIÑAS:

ITS STATUS AND PROBLEM

ABSTRACT

The study is a descriptive assessment of the Physical Facilities of Public Secondary School of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas in conjunction with the Department of Education (DepEd) program for the Physical Facilities. 

The foremost objective of the study was to understand the status and problems within the Physical Facilities through the perception of the two groups of respondent; the 8 Principals/16 teachers and 8 school custodians.

Specifically, it attempted to answer the following questions:

To know the status of the Physical Facilities of the Public Secondary Schools in Cluster 1 of the Division of Las Piñas City as perceived by the principal’s/school custodian and teachers in terms of the following:

1.1 Types of school buildings

1.2   Minimum standards for instructional and administrative spaces for secondary schools.

1.3 The design of school buildings

1.4 Building risk reduction requirements

1.5 Acquisition of new school buildings

Significant difference in the status of the Physical Facilities of Public Secondary Schools in Cluster 1 of the Division of Las Piñas City based on the perception of the two groups of respondents.

Determine the problems encountered in the Physical Facilities of Public Secondary Schools of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas City and proposed;

Provide solutions to solve the problems in the Physical Facilities of Public Secondary Schools of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas City.

Finding of the Study

1. On the Respondents Perceptions on the Status of the Physical Facilities of Public Secondary School in Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas in terms of:

1.a Types of school buildings 

Analysis of the data revealed that the secondary school principals / teachers and school custodians with the grand mean score of 3.84 interpreted “very good.” They agree that the type of secondary building found of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas were built based on the standard of the Department of Education for   the attainment of effective and conducive for learning of the students in Las Piñas.

1.b In Terms of Minimum standards for instructional and administrative spaces for secondary schools

In terms of minimum standards for instructional and administrative spaces for secondary schools, the two groups of respondents agree to “good” when the grand mean was computed, and the result was 3.06. That the Secondary School of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas have followed the minimum standards for the proper usage of instructional and administrative spaces to contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the learning. 

1.c Terms of the Design of school buildings

A clear analysis of the data revealed that the obtained grand mean of 3.74 was interpreted to “very good”. This means that the Secondary School of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas had pursued the appropriate design of school building prescribed by the DepEd manual for Educational Facilities but there were still minimal lapses that should be taken into consideration. 

1.d In Terms of Building risk reduction requirements

Indicators revealed that the perception of the two respondents was “very good” attested by the grand mean of 3.58. Thus, was clearly shown that the Secondary School of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas had met the required requirements for the building risk reduction and the need to improve the facilities in order to attain gold standard in risk reduction requirements that were needed to avoid or lessen the effect of any catastrophe.

1. e In Terms of Acquisition of new school buildings

The two groups of respondents agree that the Acquisition of new building of Secondary School of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas facilities was aligned in the proper procedure for acquiring new school building. However, improvement must be made in the  

procedure in acquisition to acquire the needed number of the school building in an efficient way.

2. Significant Difference in the Perceptions of the Two Groups of Respondents in the Status of the Physical Facilities of Public Secondary Schools of Cluster 1 in the Division of Las Piñas City.

These variables are:

1. Types of School Buildings – the computed value obtained was 1.364, which lesser than the tabular value of 2.776 at a .05, alpha level of significance. The decision to “accept” null hypothesis. Thus, the two groups of respondent have the same perception about the types of school buildings. 

2. Minimum standards for instructional and administrative spaces for secondary schools – the computed value obtained was 1.913, which lesser than the tabular value of 2.306 at .05, alpha level of significance. The decision to “accept” the null hypothesis. The groups of respondents have a parallel perception about the minimum standards for instructional and administrative spaces for secondary schools.

The design of school buildings – the computed value obtained was 4.109, which lesser than the tabular value of 2.447 at a .05, alpha level of significance. The decision to “reject” null hypothesis at a .05, alpha level of significance. The decision to “reject” the null hypothesis. The two groups of respondent have a distinctive   understanding of the design of school buildings.
