ABSTRACT

In the face of the pandemic, the proponent has come up with the idea that there are still ways to review the ALS students using their cellphones.  Cellphones are excellent device for communication aside from being small and convenient which can take photos and videos and store them for future use.  As an Alternative Learning System (ALS) coordinator, he proposed an innovative reviewer designed for ALS learners. Alternative Learning System Reviewer App (ALS-REV-APP) is a multiple-choice quiz made for android devices like cellphones and tablets. It is an offline application that makes it easy to use since it doesn’t require an internet connection. This is because the proponent knew that not all ALS learners can afford an internet connection.  The reviewer is made up of around three hundred (300) questions from all learning strands of ALS - K to12.  It was developed using the application “Android Studio”, an official integrated development environment for Google's Android operating system, built on JetBrains' IntelliJ IDEA software and designed specifically for Android development. It works by choosing first the category and level to play. The app’s categories are English, Filipino, Science, Math, Life and Career, Self and Society, and Computer. The levels are Easy, Average, and Hard. Upon choosing the category and level, the user will press the “Start” button and the app will move to the multiple-choice quiz. This quiz consists of one question with four choices, set to a timer of two minutes.   It is accessible to everyone for it can be downloaded in “Google Play Store” by searching the keyword “ALS Reviewer.  In this study, the researcher aimed to determine the acceptability of the proposed ALS-REV-APP, utilizing the developmental method of research.  Results revealed that Alternative Learning System Reviewer App (ALS-REV-APP) was approved and accepted in view of its clarity, language and style, presentation, navigation, evaluation, illustration, and usefulness.  The use of the app is recommended, and further enhancement can be done to the app.
