TECHNICAL SKILLS, EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS, AND EMPLOYMENT READINESS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL HOME ECONOMICS (HE) STUDENTS

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to determine the student’s perception on their technical skills, employability skills and employment readiness and to find out the relationships between technical skills, employability skills and employment readiness. There are 150 senior high school home economics students as respondents in this study. The study utilized four (4) sets of instruments to gather data needed to answer the problems. Frequency count and percentage were used to determine the profile of the respondents. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to determine the student’s perception on technical skills, employability skills and employment readiness. Correlation Pearson – r was both used to determine the significant relationship between the technical skills and employment readiness of the students and in determining the significant relationship between employability skills and employment readiness. The findings shows that the student’s perception on their technical skills is moderately high competent. It also shows that there is a great extent in the student’s perception of their employability skills. There is a very great extent on the student’s perception of their employment readiness. Technical skills and employability skills are significantly related to student’s employment readiness. Technical skills help the graduates to be employed and employability skills helps to ensure the employability. Thus, it is essential to integrate technical skills and employability skills to develop student’s employment readiness.
