The Philippine government survey (2003) says that the two main sources of information for Filipinos are the television and radio, while only low percentage among them who read newspapers and magazines. Although Filipinos have been regarded as highly literate people, however literacy is a measure of competence and reading skill.

The ability to read and process information is a necessary part of educational experience. The teaching of reading and writing is the key for the preparation of literacy as they play emerged as competent and educated adults. Literacy is now more than ever, essential for basic survival on a day to day basis.

As reading plays a significant role in this modern society. It is a part of life where one can hardly imagine life without it. In these era where reading is a crucial skill to determined the future of the student. Reading is amongst the most crucial determinants in developing an individual’s vision that shapes their personality and that makes them come closer to other individuals. Reading makes individuals truly free and protects them from ignorance and false beliefs (Ünal, 2010).
