ABSTRACT

This study investigated the relationship between parent involvement and student academic achievement in Grade 7 students. Parents of 200 Grade 7 students from two different schools in San Mateo, Rizal were asked to answer the questionnaire. Different types of parental involvement were assessed, including parenting, learning at home, volunteering, community involvement, communicating, and decision making. Findings indicated that parent involvement contributed to greater academic gains by their children. The purpose of this study was to know the relationship of parental involvement and academic achievement. Student achievement was measured by the Quarterly Grades in different subjects. Parental involvement was measured by using indicators from the different types of parental involvement derived from parent survey. Socio-economic status and number of children in the family play an important role in parental involvement. Recommendations for increasing greater parental involvement in schools as well as improvement in academic achievement were made based on the findings.
