ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the relationship between parental engagement and student performance in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) among Junior High School students under the Calaca City Division. A descriptive-correlational design with a quantitative approach was employed. Respondents included TLE teachers and students, who were selected through stratified random sampling. A survey questionnaire served as the primary data-gathering instrument, and the collected data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tools, including weighted mean, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, and independent t-test.

The findings revealed significant differences between teachers’ and students’ perceptions regarding the level of parental engagement, particularly in the provision of resources and enhancement of facilities. These differences suggested that the two groups held fundamentally distinct views on parental involvement in TLE. However, statistical analysis indicated no significant relationship between parental engagement and student performance in terms of academic achievement, practical skill acquisition, or interest and engagement in TLE. This implied that parental involvement might not directly predict student outcomes, and other factors could be influencing performance.

Based on these results, further studies were recommended to explore underlying factors contributing to differences in perceptions, such as communication gaps or students’ personal challenges in accessing resources. Additionally, research was suggested to investigate potential influences on student performance, including assessment methods, teacher expertise, and student motivation.

Finally, school initiatives aimed at increasing parental engagement in TLE were strongly supported by teachers, indicating the need for an action plan. Schools were advised to implement strategies that strengthen parent-teacher communication, foster participatory partnerships, mobilize community resources, and recognize stakeholder contributions, ultimately aiming to enhance student learning outcomes and overall TLE performance.
