ABSTRACT

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) is vital in education, especially in disaster-prone countries like the Philippines. This action research at San Pascual Senior High School I aimed to integrate DRRM into the curriculum and school culture to promote proactive and student-centered preparedness. Conducted over 11 weeks, the study involved 50 Grade 11 students and 10 teachers through classroom integration, structured drills, and student-led campaigns.

Quantitative data from pre- and post-assessments and observations showed significant improvements in students’ knowledge, confidence, and participation. The most notable increase was in the integration of DRRM into lessons, which more than doubled. These results align with global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework and UNESCO’s DRR education guidelines, emphasizing the value of experiential learning.

The study also highlighted the importance of teacher involvement and administrative support in sustaining DRRM efforts. By using real-life scenarios and encouraging student leadership, the program fostered a culture of safety and resilience. The success of this initiative offers a replicable model for other schools aiming to embed disaster preparedness into education meaningfully.
