ABSTRACT

This research aimed to determine the relationship of motivational strategies and enhancement of Grade 9 students’ academic performance in Science and to develop a Science learning material based on the results of the study. The researcher used the descriptive method of research. The distribution of survey questionnaire both on- line through Google form and hardcopy was the employed data- gathering instrument.

One hundred forty (140) Grade 9 students were the respondents of the study selected through Cochran method.

To analyze the data gathered, the researcher used the MPS, Mean and Standard Deviation (SD) to determine the performance in Science of the Grade 9 students, Weighted Mean and Standard Deviation to examine which motivational strategies enhance academic performance in Science based on different parameters and Pearson r to see if there was a significant relationship between motivational strategies used by teachers and academic performance of students. Strategic Intervention Material (SIM) was then developed by the researcher to improve and enhance the academic performance of Grade 9 students. In the context of the findings, the researcher concluded that there is a significant relationship between motivational strategies used in Science and academic performance of learners, the respondents rated evident that the teachers used motivational strategies in teaching Science can help to improve the learners’ academic performance participation, behavior, and understanding and the SIM developed by the researcher enhanced the Science performance of students.
