ABSTRACT
This study aimed to determine the learning style preferences of Grade 9 students in TLE in Tuy National High School. Learning style preferences refers to the characteristic strengths and preferences in the way (people) take in and process information. The respondents of the study were sixty-seven (67) grade 9 students enrolled in TLE in Tuy National High School, thirty-eight (38) were males and twenty-nine (29) were females. Felder-Solomon Learning Style Index Questionnaire (FSLSIQ), a data collection instrument in the form of questionnaire composed of ten questions that leads to a classification of four dimensions: active/reflective, sensing/intuitive, visual/verbal, and sequential/ global learning styles was utilized. Data was collected through survey questionnaires and interviews. The data gathered were tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted using Frequency Counts and Percentage, Weighted Mean, Standard Deviation, and Ranks. Results showed that the Grade 9 TLE students in Tuy National High School have an active/reflective type of learning. Active learners tend to retain and understand information best by doing something active with it -discussing or applying it or explaining it to others. It is argued that learning style preferences influence academic performance (Layco et al.,2022). The data also showed that a student’s learning style preferences were influenced by environmental, emotional, and cognitive factors alongside their previous experiences. The student’s level of understanding showed that the best for them to study especially for a test is through reading books, notes, and review pictures or charts, then asking someone to ask them questions where they can answer it loud and making of index cards to review. This study suggests that learning style preference of students with instructional strategies would be effective to help students improve academically. The researchers recommend the Teaching-Learning style preferences model or TLSP Model for teaching-learning process could be efficient if implemented to Grade 9 TLE students in Tuy National High School.
