ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate the learners’ performance of Grade 9 in Banyaga National High School using constructivism approach and cooperative approach in learning Mathematics aided by multimedia and technology to develop 21st century learner.

The researcher used descriptive and quasi- experimental research design utilizing seventy- two (72) Grade 9 students divided into two groups with the same average academic performance. The researcher utilized a learning style questionnaire to identify the multiple intelligence profile of the learners and used mean, and percentage in determining the result. Pre- test and post- tests were also administered by the researcher and assessed mean, mean percentile score (MPS) and standard deviation (SD) of determining the results of the experiment. Mann- Whitney U test was used to find out the significant difference in the pre- test and post-test results. Chi- square test of independence was used to find out the significant relationship of the learning style and post- test results.

The study found out that using either collaborative and constructivist approach in teaching- learning Mathematics 9 aided by multimedia and technology improved the academic performance of the learners. They still excelled or improved regardless of their learning styles. The lesson exemplar was designed and constructed to enable teachers to modify the content to meet the needs of their students and serve as models for effective instructional planning.

From these findings, it is recommended that teachers must provide new techniques, appropriate strategies and variety of activities through the application of different pedagogical approaches supported by multimedia and technology. Furthermore, consistent implementation of lesson exemplar is highly recommended.
