ABSTRACT
This research investigates the factors of learning retention of Grade 7 students in Core Science Academy Inc. A quantitative research approach was used, gathering data from 93 respondents of Grade 7 students of Core Science Academy Inc. A survey questionnaire was used to assess the respondents’ satisfaction, with a 4-point Likert scale measuring their responses with various statements.
The study revealed that shorter study sessions are preferred and highlighted the "uniqueness of instructional materials" as the most significant factor influencing learning retention. Factors such as "interacting with classmates" and "lack of sleep/poor nutrition" had less impact. No significant gender differences were found in retention factors or levels. While the number of study hours did not significantly affect the factors influencing retention, it did impact overall learning retention levels. The findings underscore the importance of high-quality instructional materials in enhancing student engagement and knowledge retention.
In conclusion, the study emphasizes that instructional quality and engaging materials are crucial for improving student retention and academic success. Recommendations include using tools that encourage active participation, fostering strong relationships, promoting a growth mindset, and developing effective study habits like active reading, organized note-taking, and regular reviews to enhance understanding and academic performance. The researchers recommend activity worksheets which designed to help students engage deeply with the material by applying concepts to real-world scenarios. These worksheets encourage critical thinking and problem-solving, making learning more relevant and practical. By offering a wide range of questions and activities, they provide thorough coverage of the subject, ensuring that students understand the content from multiple angles.
