ABSTRACT
Parents are the crucial link between children and schools. The importance of a healthy and strong partnership between parents and other caregivers with teachers is a well-recognized and researched topic in education. Collaboration between parents and teachers improves children’s academic achievement, work habits, social skills and emotional well-being. This study aimed to assess the effect of parent and teacher partnership on the pupils’ academic performance as one of the activities of the Project BBM at TimNatHi: Bawat Bata Bumabasa sa TimNatHi. Using a mixed method research design, with the 26 Grade 7 (Group A) learners from Timbugan National High School, Rosario West Sub-Office, as the experimental group and 22 Grade 7 (Group B) learners as the control group, the research went on as designed. The Grade 7 parents and the teachers in the said school were the respondents to assess the challenges met in the parent and teacher partnership.
Findings consisted of the experimental group of learners gained more knowledge and understanding about the topics in English compared to the control group as seen in the posttest performance, the parent and teacher respondents encountered moderate extent of challenges in their parent and teacher partnership, and the researcher was able to craft proposed supplemental activities to strengthen parent and teacher partnership based on the key finding areas or the lowest rated indicators.
Meanwhile, recommendations included for the proposed supplemental activities to strengthen parent and teacher partnership may be presented to school head of Timbugan National High School for an in-depth evaluation and approval.
