ABSTRACT

This study investigated the extent and impact of parental involvement on learners' academic performance in selected public elementary schools in the Division of Batangas City. Using a descriptive quantitative design, data were collected from key stage 1 teachers and parents from selected public elementary schools. Parental involvement was examined across four dimensions: home-based involvement, school-based involvement, communication with teachers and school administration, and the provision of a conducive home learning environment. Overall, parental involvement across these domains was found to be high.

Learners generally demonstrated outstanding academic performance, with many achieving high academic ratings. However, statistical analysis revealed no significant relationship between parental involvement and learners’ academic performance, suggesting that other factors such as teacher quality and learner motivation may have exerted a stronger influence on academic outcomes.

Key stage 1 teachers reported several challenges in encouraging parental involvement, including parents’ limited time due to work commitments, difficulties in scheduling meetings, and socioeconomic constraints. Additional concerns included communication gaps and parents’ limited understanding of their roles in supporting their children’s education.

To address these concerns, the study proposed the PAIRES (Parental Active Involvement Resulting to Educational Success) action plan, which aimed to strengthen parent–school partnerships through improved communication strategies, flexible engagement opportunities, and enhanced support for home learning routines. The action plan outlined clear objectives, timelines, and accountability measures to promote sustained parental involvement and optimize student outcomes.

The study recommended providing flexible and accessible resources to encourage parental participation, sustaining effective instructional support in schools, recognizing the multifaceted nature of academic success, validating the proposed PAIRES action plan, and conducting further research to examine the impact of parental involvement across diverse learner groups.
